Alabama State University has been named one of the 2025 Colleges of Distinction, one of only 11 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to earn this recognition. This prestigious honor emphasizes ASU’s commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience to its students and fostering student success.

ASU's President, Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr., shared the following sentiments.

“ASU is committed to providing a comprehensive, exceptional student experience that provides high-quality educational opportunities for students and ensures successful outcomes through continuous improvements," said President Ross. "This recognition reflects the dedication of our outstanding faculty and staff, and our commitment to educational excellence.”

ASU AWARDED SEVERAL RECOGNITIONS

In addition to being named one of the Colleges of Distinction, ASU was also awarded several recognitions acknowledging the University’s academic programs and student resources that provide students active and hands-on learning experiences, and a welcoming and positive career preparation.

"ASU is recognized in the areas of business, education, engineering, career development, and military support," said Dr. Tanjula Petty, Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, Strategic Initiatives, and Transformation. "Additionally, it is to be noted that ASU was recognized by the Colleges of Distinction as one of the most affordable colleges. ASU has wonderful career development initiatives for students and we have a strong commitment to supporting our military community."

ABOUT COLLEGES OF DISTINCTION

Since its founding in 2000, Colleges of Distinction has awarded schools for their successful implementation of high-impact educational practices and hands-on learning. Unlike traditional ranking systems based on numerical data, its rigorous selection process involves extensive research and detailed interviews with the institutions, accepting only those that adhere to its Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes.

"As one of the Colleges of Distinction, ASU has demonstrated excellence in each of these categories, providing students with a well-rounded, practical education that prepares them for successful careers and lives," Dr. Petty said.
